A pain that wouldn’t stop.

As some of you know I have been battling a tooth ache for the past three weeks. I had been having some major head aches that I thought were caused by a sinus infection. I had finally cured the sinus infection but I still had the head aches. Come to find out the head aches were being caused, in part, by a tooth ache. I had so much pain at one time that I didn’t know what was the cause. Well, now I know and there wasn’t much that I could do other than make an appointment with the local dentist. I have to use a certain dentist due to my insurance so I made an appointment. I didn’t just call I walked into the dentist office to make the appointment. I was hoping that they would see how much pain that I was in and rush me back to fix the problem. I wish that I could tell you that the sympathy technique worked but it didn’t. They made me an appointment for December the 10th, OMG. They told me that if it started to hurt to come back and get some meds to help with the pain. I had to laugh and explain that the only reason that I would go to the dentist is because I’m about to die from the amount of pain that I already have. That didn’t help either. You see, this dentist is either very very good and is booked constantly or there are a ton of people out there that have the same insurance that I have and he is the only local dentist in the plan, hmmm, go figure. I suffered for two more weeks before I went back to the dentist office and begged for them to take a look at my tooth. The dentist was nice enough to stay after five and take a look at it. After an ex ray and a little poking around he said that I have a bad spot on one of my molars, haha, I was thinking to myself “really, no shit”. He put a temporary filling in to help stop the pain and prescribed some meds to get me by till December 10th for my appointment ($27). He advised me that I would need a root canal and a crown shortly after that. Funny thing is, I have no pain at all now with the temporary filling in place. So I’m thinking why not just put a real filling in and be done with it for however long.

My thoughts:

Root Canal = relief from tooth ache + Crown for protection against breaking dead tooth due to Root Canal = approximately $1000 out of pocket = good Christmas for dentist

Then in time the tooth may break at gum line anyway.

Real Filling = relief from tooth ache = less trips to dentist for completion = $67 out of pocket = good Christmas for my kids

Then if the tooth ever starts hurting again I could consider the alternative or get it pulled.

You decide, let me know what you would do and why…comment.

I’m leaning towards the Real Filling because I hate the fact that a Root Canal kills the tooth. You can never bring the tooth back to life or regrow a tooth. And for the lesser amount of money I can keep the tooth, without pain, alive and possibly for many many more years. I have seen several people with Root Canals and Crowns so I’m sure it works. But I have also heard many horror stories about breaking a tooth off at the gum line while eating something like popcorn a couple of years after getting the procedure done. The dead tooth becomes very weak even with a crown on it.

Respectful Hunter

A hunter and his friend were sitting in a tall tower stand near highway 481 in Maverick Co., TX, early one cold December morning.

Suddenly, a huge buck walked out over to the corn they had spread in the low shrubbery with a tailgate feeder. Moving quickly, the hunter carefully aimed the Leopold scope on his .300 Winchester Mag at the unsuspecting buck.

As he was about to squeeze the trigger on this deer of a lifetime, his friend alerted him to a funeral procession passing slowly down highway 481. The hunter pulled away from the gunstock, set the rifle down, took off his hat, bowed his head, and then closed his eyes in prayer.

His friend was stunned. When his buddy had raised his head and replaced his cap, he exclaimed, Wow, that is the most thoughtful and touching thing I have ever seen you do. You are indeed the kindest man I have ever known, and I feel lucky to call you a friend.”

The hunter shrugged. “Heck. It’s the least I could do . . . we were married for 35 years.”

Priceless!
