I have been part of a father son fishing trip since I was about 7 years old. We have been fishing the Brazos river every Spring Break until recently. I opted to move the fishing trip to Lake Buchanan in search of better fishing. Well, the fish were there but it was hard to catch them. My dad, Zack, and I started the trip on the 15th and finished it on the 18th. After two full days of nothing but fishing we had a keeper count of 2, wow. The weather was not working in our favor. The wind was blowing so bad that it made it miserable to stay out on the main body of the lake. The waves were between 3 and 5 foot most of the time which made it very difficult to anchor out anywhere. We ended up fishing about 15 miles up the Colorado river where the wind wasn’t as bad and the water was calm. Monday morning we found the white bass and finally started catching. Every fish was around 9 inches and the keeper limit was 10 inches. So we didn’t really get to keep very many of the fish. It was fun catching them because the white bass fight like no other. I pulled in a 14 inch for the first keeper of the weekend. The way it fought you would have thought that I had a giant whale. Zack caught the second and last keeper for the weekend Monday afternoon back at the cabins. Late Monday afternoon the white bass moved into the cove around us feeding on the shade. It was pretty cool to see all the shade jumping up out of the water trying to get away from the bass chasing them. We saw a few of the shade get caught in the middle of the air by a very large white bass. When all this started I had already changed over for catfish so I was fishing on bottom. I had to get another pole out with a lure on it to try and catch one of the white bass. I told Zack to cast right out in the middle of it all, he did, and I’ll be, he hung a 15 inch white bass right away. It was fun watching him fight with it trying to get it into the bank. We didn’t catch any catfish but we did catch white bass and a few black bass.

Here are some pictures from the trip.

1st keeper
I caught the 1st keeper for the trip Monday morning. I also caught the first fish for the trip Saturday afternoon.

2nd keeper
Zack caught this keeper late Monday afternoon.

My dad's catch
My dad finally caught one so he wanted me to take a picture for proof, haha.

Zack's catch
Another small catch for Zack. He ended up being the fish catching champion for the fishing trip. He caught several little white bass, one keeper white bass, and one or two little black bass.

Average size
This was the average size that we were catching. They were small but they sure put up a good fight.

Found a new waterfall
We stopped in a cove along the river to see if there was any good fishing holes there and we stumbled across this waterfall.

Sleeping in
After two and a half long days of fishing Zack finally decided to sleep in. He had been getting up early with his grand dad trying to catch some bass around the cove that we were staying at.

I know, based on the title you were probably thinking something dirty is about to come from Benny. But guess again, the picture explains it all.

Dirty Little Girl

Zoe had a good time playing in a puddle at my in-laws house. She sure isn’t scared to get dirty.
